Eak!..what trail camera should I get? Choosing the right trail camera

Trail cameras or camera traps are a unique bit of technology. They are the eyes and ears when you are not around. Once setup and left, their mission is to automatically record any movement and writing a video or still to an SD card. Part of the magic is popping out the next morning, retrieving your camera to see what midnight antics have been going on while you are asleep.

Most trail cameras today are jam packed with features, but share similar general features like:
  • Triggered by motion
  • Records video or stills
  • Saves to SD card with time and date stamp
  • Runs on batteries
However, most trail camera manufacturers release yearly models have incremental features like:
  • Higher photo or video resolutions
  • Faster triggers speeds
  • More controls on record times and strength of sensitivity
Major trial camera features
If you are just after a camera that records day and night then most of the handykam.com trail cameras will be perfect. However, other major features people sometimes ask for are:
  • Does it record audio?
  • Does it have a colour playback screen?
  • Can I set the camera between day or night?
  • Does it have no glow LED’s? (Mainly for security)
